Being offered a position on the varsity football team as a lineman, Kevin Good partakes a more advanced role than he would from the JV team.
Q: How does it feel to be the youngest player at 15 on the varsity football team?
A: It is an honor to be given the opportunity to play on the varsity team. I don’t really think about being younger than the other players. Everyone is really nice and supportive. I am just another guy on the team.
Q: What goes through your head when you’re on the field?
A: I just focus on my job on the field. I think about the play being called and what role I play to make sure each play is a success.
Q: Even though there is an age gap, do you still feel a bond between you and your team?
A: The group of linemen are really close. I have learned so much from all of the upperclassmen on the team and feel very fortunate to have played with them this year.
Q: Are there any traditions or bonding that you do with your team?
A: Every Tuesday night after practice, the linemen group go for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. It is a great time to do something other than practice, and we really enjoy getting to spend time off of the field.
Q: For this season, do you see the team achieving success and going to playoffs?
A: I am excited about the opportunity for Whitney’s football program to reach the playoffs and achieve success. We are really starting to peak, and I am really optimistic about our chances in these last two games and hopefully moving forward into the playoffs.
Q: How has football affected you as an individual?
A: I love playing football. I think football teaches me discipline and commitment which I can apply to all areas of my life including school and family.
Q: How do you think being on varsity now will aid you in your football career?
A: I think it has been a great opportunity to play varsity this year. What I have learned this year will help me be better prepared for the next two seasons. The pace and intensity is so much different, and I have learned so much over this season.
Q: Do you see the varsity team improving as you become older?
A: I think Whitney has a great football program. The other levels have had a lot of success this year and I believe this will translate into much success for our future.
