The Sierra Foothill League honored the Rocklin High football team by naming six players to its All-League selections. Two players were named to the first team.

Cade Wyant made first team at quarterback. The 6-foot-2-inch senior was second in passing only to Folsom’s MVP Kaiden Bennett. Wyant passed for 2,107 yards, 15 touchdowns and finished with a 100.1 quarterback rating. Wyant also rushed for two TDs.

Liam Mays landed on the first team as well, playing wide receiver. The senior snared 57 passes for 804 yards to lead the Thunder in receiving. His longest reception was 60 yards and he broke the plane of the end zone eight times.

The 6-foot-3, 165-pound Mays also played free safety and had 13 tackles plus an interception on defense to his credit. He kicked off 29 times, one sailing 60 yards. He was 4-of-5 in field goal attempts and 22-for-26 in extra-point attempts.

Second Team

Josh Lopez was tabbed for credit at offensive tackle. At 6 feet, 200 pounds, the versatile senior also filled in at guard and on the defensive line.

Getting the nod at center was Joey Wuelfing. A solid 235 pounds, the senior also saw duty at guard and as a defensive tackle.

On the defensive side of the ball, lineman Doug Barnes went nose-to-nose with opposing offenses and tallied 29 tackles. The senior also had a quarterback sack to his credit.

At 200 pounds, Barnes could also play outside linebacker or fill in at center when needed. He also gathered a fumble to assist Rocklin’s fortunes.

Jordan Andersen secured a spot in the SFL’s defensive backfield. The senior had 14 tackles in nine games, returned 20 kickoffs and led the team with 261 total yards. Anderson also returned nine punts.

On offense, Andersen had a 23-yard pass reception for a touchdown.

Whitney

It was a transition year for the Whitney High football team, adjusting to a new head coach and entering the Sierra Foothill League. But in spite of the changes, the Wildcats placed three on the league’s second team.

Zach Chaffin was the only senior to make the list. Although a good running back as well, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound veteran was selected for his service as an outside linebacker.

Chaffin was the team leader in tackles with 95, placing him third in the SFL, just three tackles behind the league leader. Chaffin also picked off a pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown.

The senior was also prepared to step onto the other side of the scrimmage line and rushed for a TD, while carrying the ball only four times all season. He also gathered in three passes, gaining 33 yards.

Ian Simpson was tabbed for wide receiver. The 6-foot-3-inch, 235-pound junior was also well suited to play tight end, as well.

The rangy receiver led the team in receptions with 28, averaging nearly 9 yards-per-catch over eight games.

On defense, lineman Brody Stone weighed in as an SFL pick. The 6-foot, 245-pound junior recorded 34 tackles and two sacks, and recovered a fumble.

While Whitney placed three players on the SFL’s prestigious All-League squad, two of them could return in 2019.
