But for Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay and Whitney’s Sam Sommerhauser, the season will continue.
Whitney, which won its first Sierra Foothill League golf title this season and then followed it up with a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I crown, missed out on a bid to reach the CIF State tournament when the Wildcats finished in sixth place as a team with a 389 total.
However, two fine rounds by McDermott and Sommerhauser earned the area duo respective trips to the State tourney, which will be held May 29 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.
McDermott, playing Monday as an individual, shot a nifty 3-under-par 69 to finish third overall while Sommerhauser, playing with his qualifying Whitney teammates, notched an even-par 72 to finish seventh overall in the tourney and also earn a State berth.
Jesuit won the team championship by shooting a 364, 11 strokes better than second-place De La Salle’s 373. Finishing in third place and also earning a State team berth was Saratoga, which carded a 375 total.
Following in order were Davis Sr., 377, Bellarmine Prep, 379, Whitney; 389, Robert Louis Stevenson, 390, Foothill of Pleasanton, 392, Amador Valley, 392 and Pleasant Valley of Chico, 417.
