The 42nd annual Optimist All-Star Softball Game is set for Wednesday, May 29, at Capital Christian School and will feature tons of local talent from the softball diamond. Two games will be played featuring the best from the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section large schools and small schools. The North Large School roster will be headed by Del Oro head coach Sean Erickson, whose Golden Eagles competed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship final Friday night at Arnaiz Softball Complex in Stockton. Assistant coach Johnny Williams will join Erickson in the dugout along with fellow Sierra Foothill League coaches Michele Granger of Granite Bay and Mike Mello of Whitney. Some of the local talent featured on the North Large Schools team includes Del Oro’s Amanda DuPriest, who is headed to play at UTEP next season, and Taylor Urrutia, who will play for Corban University. From the SFL champion Whitney roster are twin sisters Mazie and Makenzie Macfarlane, who are both headed to play at Utah State next year. Also from the SFL on the North are Ashley Bartels and Lindsay Poulos of Granite Bay and Taylor Fitzgerald and Jordan Tressler of Rocklin. The Foothill Valley League is also well-represented on the North squad with champion Oakmont having three representatives in Jordyn Oliver, Lenora Watson and Lauren Weinberg. Sophia Agundes and Hanna Sheiring will suit up from the Lincoln Fighting Zebras, and Placer’s Taylor Kemis and Zoey Lykins will represent the Hillmen. Roseville’s Sadie Langlet and Woodcreek’s Shayla Castillon and Maddy Ybarra will also play for the North. Highlighting the locals on the South team, coached by Vista del Lago’s Robert Reed, are Bailey Pfeiler of Folsom and Reagan Hunt and Leah Polson of Oak Ridge. Three Bear River Bruins will represent the North in the Small Schools game, including Shelbi Beghetti, Massiel Chavez and Julia Vaughn. Rylee Bautista of Colfax, Grace John and Haley Schilling of Valley Christian Academy and Amber Mackay and Cassie Ralston of Foresthill will also play for the North Small School team, coached by Center’s Derek Evans. The Small Schools game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Large Schools game to follow. General admission is $10; Seniors $8; Students $5; Children 12 and under $3; and Children 5 and under are free.
