Austin Vasquez was the top boys runner coming in at 15 minutes, 56.2 seconds for the Wildcats in the 5,000-meter run while Del Oro’s Riley Chamberlain won the girls race at 19:02.0.
Following Vasquez in for Whitney in the boys top 10 were third-place Ethan Dodge (16:39.8) and ninth-place Jason Finta (17:10.5). The boys runner-up was Rocklin’s Daniel McElhinney (16:35.0). Jacob Polivka (4th, 16:41.2) and Joseph Passalacqua (5th, 16:51.2) helped the Thunder finished second overall as a team.
Rounding out the boys top 10 were Folsom’s Zachary Graeber (6th, 16:58.4), Granite Bay’s Michael Zagayov (7th, 17:02.3), Del Oro’s Bryan Stafford (8th, 17:10.0) and Granite Bay’s Gavin Vance (10th, 17:14.7).
While Chamberlain again dominated the individual girls field, Whitney prevailed with the team win behind top-10 finishes from Grace Lathrop (3rd, 19:33.8), Brooke Giorgi (4th, 19:41.3), Katie Kopec (7th, 20:04.0) and Natalie Eppler (10th, 20:26.2).
Oak Ridge took runner-up honors wholly and individually as sophomore Ava Maier’s 19:20.7 was good for second place. Kayla Rutz, Abigail Fletcher and Tiana Oliver followed Maier in the top 10 for the Trojans.
